Looking at the topic of the blog post, “Entry Barrier – Essential for your Business Plan fo find funds”
Well, the picture above does not really reflect the same, does it?
To create a context: This picture has been taken by me, while I was having “Hot Chocolate” coffee at “Open House Coffee”, a coffee shop, which incidentally has only one store in Delhi.
Yes – a Coffee chain that has only a single store in Delhi
I enquired about this concept fromt he coffee makers there, and they said, all over India, we have only two stores! RIght upon hearing this, I thought probably the other store would be really big and lavish, coz seeing this one didn’t make me feel any good.
Location of the store: A jam packed, market in one of Delhi’s nowhere near to popular area – Paharganj
Space of the store: Well, its a small store and there is not much of space to sit and have fun
So what’s the point?
(That’s me at the coffee house)
Well, the point is the location of the sotre!! There may be several Cafe Coffee Day outlets and many Barista’s out in Delhi. ALmost everywhere you would find one! And the amazing thing is that almost everywhere you would find the place packed with people.
Amazingly, the Open House Coffee, has only one store in Delhi, at a place where probably the maximum number of tourists who land in Delhi, stay. The place is full of foreign tourists who stay in these small and dingy hotels and guest houses. Now each of these tourists who is looking out, well the first thing in this Strange land they see, which makes them feel like home, is this Coffee house, which attracts the eye!
And wallah! You have foreign footfalls, at a place where you would not expect the locals to pay almost a Dollar for a cuppa coffee.
Now if I see, then within the area, almost till another 5-7 Kms. there is no other good coffee house, which can be called competition. And the best part is, I think, though I have not spoken to the founder of the coffee chain, well, the target audience are just what Open Coffee House, would want.
Also, looking at the place, I dont really see much space which a Cafe Coffee Day or a Barista could capture in the market. As its a jam packed, place, which not many people would roam around for a cuppa!
Interesting positioning I must say, good to see things different!
